Software Development Concepts for Tech+

Programming Languages

Programming languages can be grouped by level and execution model: - Low-Level vs High-Level: - Low-level: Close to machine code. Machine code (0s and 1s). Assembly language (human-readable mnemonics). Give fine control over hardware but difficult to write.

Data Types

Data types define what kind of data a variable can hold: - Integer: Whole number (no fractional part). Can be positive, negative, or zero. Examples: -3, 0, 42. Use for counting, indexing. - Floating-Point (Float/Double): Number with fractional part (decimal point).

Programming Concepts

Fundamental programming concepts appear in virtually every language: - Variables: Named storage location holding a value that can change. Example: score = 10. Allows programs to store input, track state, perform calculations.

Organizational Techniques

Organizational techniques help plan and understand program logic: - Pseudocode: Writing algorithm steps in plain language without worrying about syntax. Like an outline of program logic. Not meant to run on computer - for humans to read and catch logical issues.
