Infrastructure for Tech+

Computing Devices

Computing devices come in many forms, each suited to certain roles: - Smartphones: Pocket-sized mobile computers combining cellular telephony with computing. Used for communication, apps, internet access.

Internal Components

A computer's internal components each have specific roles: - Motherboard: Primary circuit board that holds and interconnects all components. Provides data pathways (buses) for components to communicate.

Storage Types

Various storage types can be compared by volatility, access speed, and purpose: - Volatile vs Non-volatile: Volatile storage (RAM) loses data when power is off. Non-volatile storage (HDD, SSD) retains data.

Peripheral Setup

Peripheral devices extend computer functionality: - Input devices: Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner, Webcam, Microphone - Output devices: Monitor/Display, Printer, Speakers/Headset, Projector - External storage: External hard drive, USB flash drive, Optical drive

Device Interfaces

What "in scope" looks like: given a device or scenario, choose the interface that makes sense (e.g., a modern laptop display output, a wired Ethernet connection, a short-range phone-to-device connection), or identify what a connector/tool is for.

Virtualization and Cloud

In scope: - Virtualization: hypervisor, guest operating system (OS) - Cloud service models: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS - Deployment models: on premises, cloud, hybrid

Networking Basics

2.7 Compare and contrast common internet service types: - Fiber optic, cable, DSL, wireless/RF, satellite, cellular

Wireless Networks

In scope (recognition + simple comparison): - Common Wi-Fi standards: 802.11n / 802.11ac / 802.11ax - Speed considerations (newer standards generally faster) - Basic frequency bands (2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz) at a high level - Channels/interference as basic concepts (no deep RF...
